My sustained investigation deals with person perception versus self reflection... constantly being confused with who you really are, and sometimes maybe being scared of that person. My experience as a growing woman has played a big role in my creative process. To effectively show this, I started manipulating mirrors. Mirrors are something that most people use to perfect and fix themselves; however, I wanted to portray the true reflections one would see when looking in the mirror. Through this process, I used permanent materials, like paint and permanent marker, to capture my reflection at various angles and expressions. In image two, I painted on top of an ornamental mirror which frames myself sitting on a stool reflecting upon my chaotic thoughts. The writing in the background represents a stream of consciousness in that particular moment, the frame is the past, the mirror is the ever changing present, and the headless body shown as a vehicle for one's emotions. Within the space of a square frame, I try to build a world with all versions of myself through hidden metaphors. This reflective process allows me to sift through those raw emotions and analyze them.
