While creating my portfolio, the questions that guided me were, Who am I? What is my truest self? and How do my insecurities affect my day to day life?. After contemplating these questions for some time, I landed on a sustained investigation titled, Haunts. The word haunt has two definitions, the first one is something scary that follows you around everywhere you go (1,3,4,5,8,10) and the second definition is a person, place or thing that feels almost like home to you (2,6,7,9). I have showcased both sides of the word throughout my pieces and with this being my sustained investigation, I had to break out of my comfort zone to showcase my biggest fears/insecurities and I needed to tune into the deepest part of my being to find what is home to me. While making my pieces, I experimented with four different mediums, colored pencil, water color, Micron pens and photography. At first it was hard for me to display how I felt clearly but, as I became more comfortable with sharing these parts of me, my work became clearer and I felt that they showcased the people, places, things and fears that help me understand who I am as a person.
